On a cold Saturday, 19th of November, Turku celebrited the Artwork Giveaway Day.
This Turku365 project was a tent filled with artworks donated by Finnish artists on the Market Square. In September Turku365 was looking for citizens in the need of art to their homes. We got over 300 applications and offered 72 of them a chance to come and choose a packet from the tent, one after another. This tent was a labyrinth, filled with white and orange covered art pieces in different colours and shapes, so people had to trust their intuition when choosing their packet. In these packets you could find sketchbooks, paintings, photo prints, an industrial designer’s prototype or even a sculpture, all looking for a new owner.
In the tent we also had a performing artist as a butler to help people in their choosing process. Our artists were actors Miska Kaukonen, Arne Virtanen, Valtteri Lipasti and Jussi Helminen.
The Art Giveaway Day happening lasted from 10 am to 6 pm and curious passer-bys were able to take a peek into the tent through round holes on the tent walls.
You will find the donator artists, their art pieces, the lucky receivers and all the photos from here and here.
