On 1st of October 1972 23.30 pm a tram started it’s last trip from the market square, full of crying inhabitants of Turku. After that there has been discussion about getting the tramlines back for almost 40 years.
Why were the tramlines removed? What memories do the citizens have of them? On Thursday, 19th of May, the Art Clinc group called TAAG drew all three tramline routes back in just one night. Town government records, discussion of tramlines in suomi24.fi discussion forum, poems dedicated to the tramlines and memories were also heard as part of the artwork. It was also possible to meet TAAG’s grill, Harley Parkinson at the terminal points.
The artwork started from the first terminal point of line 1 in the harbour of Turku 20.15 pm. Line 2 took place between Nummenmäki and Korppoolaismäki. The artwork finished at the market square, on the terminal point of line 3 at 03.27 am. The lime machine, a melodica and six men travelled altogether 15,7 meditative kilometers.
